Red Rockers - Western Musicians in China

Yaogun Yinyue (shake roll music) really started to gain traction in China during the '80s, supported by the likes of Cui Jian (now affectionately referred to as the 'Godfather of Rock'). Since then it has spread far and wide from the big city bustle of Beijing to the more sedate and laid back, Yunnan. In June 2021 The South China Morning Post published an article which highlights both the growth and now, well if not decline, certainly an artistic 'holding pattern' of western influenced rock music in China.
